Painting Concrete Floor Tips
Painting concrete floors is not something you get to do easily. It requires careful planning and preparation and usually takes some time. First, you need to prepare the floor before even painting it. Preparation includes degreasing, cleaning, repairing, priming and sealing. This needs a lot of materials for the entire process.
Older homes may have cracks or rough patches on some parts of the floor. If your floor needs a little smoothening on top, concrete compound will provide you with that smooth surface. You can buy a can of this from your local hardware store. The concrete compound comes with simple instructions for mixing. You should let your floor dry first before you start painting- which is the exciting part of the job.
When choosing color or paint for your flooring, buy epoxy-based floor paint. You can add a glossy finish that looks good and protects the floor from any abrasion. Remember, do not leave your floor area to be just plain. You can absolutely decorate it with various patterns and colors.

The How-Tos Of Painting Concrete Floors
Besides the many important benefits of redecorating a home in a budget-friendly manner, the choice of painting concrete floor combine a feeling of warmth and style and resilience in the room whether it is in the basement, living room or terrace.
In addition to the choice of colors and material resources, another way you can add dimension to your painted floor is using different textures to source materials like clusters or background circular cylinder, intersecting the impressions they make in semi-hardened concrete.
Painting concrete floors in rooms for other purposes, such as a family room or media room, must adapt with changes in lifestyle and family size. The areas with concrete floors are usually lit for storage. However, it strongly encourage people to hang out and enjoy more of the new look instead of worrying about the floor marked with brand shoes or heavy furniture.

Contemporary Designs For Floors
For those who favored 20th century Traditional designs, a Contemporary design for them would often get some bad rap. For these people, Contemporary design means sterile or boring. However, one should know that the reality goes beyond these stereotypes.
Contemporary style is all about clean, crisp, simple, elegant, and spacious. If there is anything that would upset traditional style lovers would be that this style is too spacious for those who prefer cluttering their spaces with furniture. For a Contemporary taste, space plays an integral element that serves as color and line in this kind of décor.
For a Contemporary floor design, you can have painted concrete floors or solid-colored tile. Carpet is not a good idea for achieving this kind of look in your home. You can use stunning area rugs to group your items well.

How To Decorate Your Home Flooring With Paint
In home decorating, paint is considered as the most versatile décor tool. By buying just one can of paint, you can get a new look for your interiors. When it comes to painting the house, a lot of people only think of wall painting but there are a lot of great ways that paint can offer to add unique touches in any homes.
One example would be the ceiling. These are often overlooked in most homes. You can surely have a newly-painted ceiling, which can add extra depth into your room.
Another area you can use paint on is your flooring. All types of flooring can be painted. If for example, you have hardwood flooring, you can spruce it up with a large mural or shape on your hardwood floor. You can also add stenciling around the edges, making a faux area rug. Hand Painted Floor
I love painting. it’s so fun and I especially love to paint the walls of my house. I love it so much that sometimes, after all the walls are painted, I look for other things to paint, too! If you think about it, a floor is like a wall, too, because it’s the last flat surface of your room, the only one that appears at the bottom of your feet. But it can be treated like a wall, too, and is definitely paintable. This works best if you have concrete floors, but wooden flooring is fine, as well. If you have tiles, painting the individual tiles will look better than trying to paint one whole image onto the entire floor itself.
There are different ways of painting your floor. Stenciling is a rather popular option, as it lessens the pressure to paint a masterpiece on your own. Also, the designs will be more uniform and consistent. Another possibility is to just free hand it, which may seem difficult at first, but if you already have something in mind, it might actually be an easier solution than stenciling. A third option would be to combine the two, stenciling and then modifying the stencil paintings after.

Not What You First Think
Take a look at these floors.
Parquetry – right?
WRONG!
These floors are actually painted!
Courtesy of Billet Collins these amazing floors have been hand painted. Billet Collins is recognized as one of Washington, DC’s most influential decorative painter – and with floors like this is not surprising.
I just know I would not have the patience to do one of these but I wonder if I could convince someone else in the family that it would be ‘fun’.
Floors like this certainly do make a statement and if you are looking after a unique floor then this might just be what you are looking for.

ZigZag and Chevron My Floor
ZigZag flooring also know as chevron flooring certainly makes an impact – is a new trend in chevron flooring taking place? And would you use it in your home?
Taking the monochromatic look to extremes is this image of Mary McDonald’s from Domino Magazine.
This one from http://www.lonnymag.com/ is a particular favorite of mine. I love the more casual zigzag as opposed to the normal formal format.
By Miles Redd a study of zigzag in the formal. Never in a million years would I dream of putting this floor and that large print together – but somehow Miles can get away with it.
This one using Ann Sacks Tile’s I’m going to call “overload”.
And a softer take on the zigzag works well in this entry by Alicia B Designs
It’s a rug – well no it’s Chevron striped mosaic rug set into painted cement floor. This stone rug can be installed indoor or outdoor and comes from Real Mosaic.
Stop it’s hurting my eyes! Image from http://www.fromtherightbank.com/
Gracewood Design brings us this painted and stenciled flooring. This I think is stunning!

DIY Walk of Art
We all like to hang beautiful piece of artwork in our homes. Walk into a house and chances are, there will be pictures and other works of art hanging on the walls of living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and even bathrooms. But what about the floors? Canvas rugs are a great way to decorate the floors of your home! What’s even better is that, while you can buy beautiful hand painted canvas rugs, you can also be the one to create these works of floor art. They are an inexpensive project (it costs only a fraction of a store bought rug) and can last a long, long time.
The best way to go about making your canvas rug is to use flat brushes and liquid acrylics on a drop cloth. These should be easily available at your local crafts store. If you don’t have much artistic talent, there are stencils that can also be bought either at your crafts store or downloaded off the internet to use. One of the pluses about painting your own is that you can match the colors of your home by yourself, and also experiment by mixing different color paints together.
Another great thing about canvas rugs is that they are usually one of a kind. Especially if you make your own, you are adding a custom feel that relates directly to you. And even if you don’t make your own, there are places online that also sell one of a kind, hand painted canvas rugs. Either way, you know that a lot of time and care was put into your rug.

Yellow By Nancy Lancaster
Nancy Lancaster (1897-1994) a British decorating icon was renowned for her imaginative and stylish interiors. She was supremely confident in her taste and her influence on home interiors and gardens in Britain has been immeasurable.
She was an advocate of experimentation, never minding mixing unlikely colors.
This floor is testament to the using of sticking colors to define a space. The repeat pattern in bright yellow brings a happiness and freshness to an otherwise boring room.
Even if it’s not a style of architecture or period you like, a decorator has to have a feel for a house’s personality and try not to fight against it. I like to get the juice out of a house and not spoil it. Nancy
